When issued a HCV voucher, the voucher is only valid for 120 days. During this time you must either have your current housing approved OR locate another unit to be rented with the voucher.
No extensions will be issued unless required by Reasonable Accommodation.
Places to start your Search
SHA has a list of property owners who have or currently do participate with HCV and that may or may have units available.
You do not need to rent from property owners on this list, it is simply a starting point should you need it.
This can be requested by contacting the SHA office.
When you Find the Unit- Request for Tenancy Form
The first step after you find a unit that you wish to use your voucher in is to complete the Request for Tenancy Form.
This form is mostly completed by the property owner however there is a place for both parties to sign on the back.
This form needs to be submitted to your Program Manager to begin the approval process.
Property Owner is Unfamiliar with HCV
After the SHA receives the Request for Tenancy Form, the Program Manager will reach out to the owner.
If the Property Owner is unfamiliar with the HCV program they will be discuss with the Program Manager and the required documents will be sent to them.
Inspection of the Unit
Prior to moving into the unit, the unit must first pass a HQS inspection.
The Property Owner will contact the inspector to schedule this.
Paperwork
After the unit passed an inspection there is paperwork that will be completed for:
HCV Participants to sign with the SHA
Property Owner to sign a HAP Contract with SHA
HCV Participant to sign a Lease & Lead Paint Disclosure with Property Owner

The SHA does not have any funds to assist with Security Deposit payments. This will be the participants responsibility.
